New Features of Intel's Next Generation Processor--Poulson

At last week's Hot Chips conference in California, Intel released the updated architecture features of its upcoming Itanium processor with the codename as "Poulson". The new architecture features include Instruction Replay, improved Hyper-Threading and new instructions and so on, aiming to use the next-generation 12-wide release architecture. The Instruction Replay technology is one of the new features, which could make the wrong instruction re-execute, and then automatically cover the serious mistakes and further help to prevent the system collapse and data damage. Additionally, this Instruction Replay technology is an important remote access services update and the first Intel chip to have the capability. General Manager at Intel's Data Center Group, Pauline Nist said, "utilizes a new pipeline architecture to expand error detection in order to capture transient errors in execution. Upon error detection, instructions can then be re-executed from the instruction buffer queue to automatically recover from severe errors to improve resiliency." Besides these, for almost all main architectures in the Itanium electronic components core design, "Poulson" adds extensive RAS (reliability, availability and serviceability) protections, including LLC (last level cache), MLI (mid-level instruction cache), MLD (mid-level data cache), IEU (integer execution unit) and FPU (floating-point unit), etc. This technology enables the second feature, improved Hyper-Threading which brings better performance and support for Dual Domain Multithreading. This allows for front and backend pipeline execution, therefore improving Poulson's parallelism. Moreover, Intel is adding instructions in four areas as well. There are new integer operations, expanded data access hints, expanded software prefetch and thread control. It is worthwhile for Xeon customers to keep an eye on Itanium updates and features because they are likely to appear in future Xeon CPUs. The new Itanium instructions of Intel simplify unified task and branch operations to help the future Itanium to promote into the next level. Key points of "Poulson": * Eight high capacity core * 54MB memory chips (50MB of an SRAM) * Adopting 32 nm made 3.1 billion transistors * The higher, the bus speed (QPI and SMI) will increase 33 percent system bandwidth * The next generation of architecture improves the new data and instructions channel, floating point channel and instruction cache. * Improve the power management function, reduce the socket power consumption. * Compatible with the present Intel Itanium 9300 processor series. Intel announced that "Poulson" Itanium processor is the most advanced Intel processor so far which is about to launch in 2012. The next-generation Itanium processor followed "Poulson" is code-named as "Kittson" which is being developed and would be released in 2014.

ARM Processors: We Are Being Stronger on PC Market

According to electronics’ latest news, it said that ARM is expected to achieve its biggest successes in the value notebook segment during the next few years.
Figures from processor market said that Spurred by next year’s introduction of Microsoft Corp.’s new ARM-enabled Windows 8 operating system, ARM-based systems will account for 22.9 percent of global notebook PC unit shipments in 2015, up from 3 percent in 2012. Shipments will reach 74 million ARM notebooks in 2015, compared to 7.6 million in 2012.
IHS expected that with shipments of ARM processors set to soar in the coming years and projected to appear in nearly one out of every four notebook PCs made in 2015, the PC microprocessor (MPU) market finally is set for some real competition though the Intel has been dominated the microarchitecture for more than 30 years.

 “Starting in 1981, when IBM first created its original PC based on Intel’s 8088 microprocessor, the X86 architecture has dominated the PC market,” said Matthew Wilkins, principal analyst of compute platforms for IHS. “Over the next generation, billions of PCs were shipped based on X86 microprocessors supplied by Intel and assorted rivals—mainly Advanced Micro Devices Inc. However, the days of X86’s unchallenged domination are coming to an end as Windows 8 opens the door for the use of the ARM processor, which already has achieved enormous popularity in the mobile phone and tablet worlds.”

However, the ARM processer has to thanks the Windows 8 PC system. To be introduced in 2012, Windows 8 is expected to support ARM-based PC systems in some versions. Microsoft at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January announced that Windows 8 would work with ARM-based system on chip (SoC) designs, whereas the company’s flagship operating system has supported only standalone X86 microprocessors in the past. ARM support will enable the full-fledged Windows PC operating system to work on highly integrated chips that are more space- and power-efficient than traditional X86 microprocessors, such as the ARM devices used in smartphones and media tablets.

When turn to the performance of ARM processors, it said that value notebooks are designed to deliver the optimal price/performance to consumers with a price of less than $700.

 “ARM is well-suited for value notebooks, where performance isn’t a key criterion for buyers,” Wilkins said. “Value notebook buyers are looking for basic systems that balance an affordable price with reasonable performance. ARM processors deliver acceptable performance at a very low cost, along with unrivaled power efficiency.” It is quite an good opportunity to look forward to a growth of PCelectronic componentsunder such conditions.

Electronic Components Distributors on hqew.net Are Positive

According to the updatest '' Annual Electronics Components Supplier survey Report ''  on June, 2011 in China, Bullish electronic components distributors are positive about the China Electronic market, and Survey also reveals China's most preferred distributors.

With 87% expecting double-digit revenue growth in 2011. On average, electronic components distributors in China forecast a 27% increase in revenue this year. This optimism is echoed by China's electronic components manufacturers.

After a bumper year in 2010, which saw revenues of China's electronics components and information industry increase by 24.1% year-on-year to RMB 6,364.5 billion (US$979 billion), China's electronic manufacturers continue to be optimistic, with 54% planning to increase their orders from electronic components distributors this year in anticipation of continual growth.

A total of 147 senior managers working for leading components distributors in the China market and 1,629 corporate, purchasing and procurement managers from China's electronics manufacturers participated in this year's Survey, which looked into their current challenges and plans for the future.

In addition to electronic component shortage, franchised and combination distributors are wrestling with fierce competition (54%), dropping profit margin (41%), rising costs (28%) and suppliers' changing channel management strategy (25%). To counter these challenges, they are developing new application markets (51%), developing new brands (38%), increasing marketing activities (28%), expanding sales network (31%) .

And Electronic Components suppliers said the quality is top priority and must.

INA137UA: Differential Line Receivers

The component INA137UA is one of the INA137 family. Among so many electronic components, the INA137 and INA2137 are differential line receivers consisting of high performance op amps with on-chip precision resistors. AD7841ASZ: 8 14-bit DACs Chip

The component AD7841ASZ is one of the AD7841 series in electronic components terms. AD7841 is usually seen in automatic test equipment, process control and general purpose instrumentation. The AD7841 contains eight 14-bit DACs on one monolithic chip. It has output voltages with a full-scale range of ±10 V from reference voltages of ±5 V. Electronic Components Stirs Auto’s Fear

During 11 March’s earthquake, many electronic companies plant suffered badly in this disaster. It is said a small electronic component that measures airflow to car engines is becoming a big worry for the auto industry in the wake of Japan's earthquake and tsunami.

One component coming under increased scrutiny goes into mass airflow sensors. Made by Hitachi Automotive Systems, a unit of Hitachi Ltd., at a plant north of Tokyo that was damaged by the quake and remains shut down, the electronic part is used by about a dozen auto makers.

The disaster has forced auto and parts plants throughout Japan to shut down. General Motors Co., Toyota Motor Corp. and PSA Peugeot-Citroën have cut or are making plans to curb output of thousands of vehicles in the U.S. and Europe due to concerns about a shortage of critical parts made in Japan. 

News from USA and Canada said, this earthquake really stirred a huge fear in Auto industry. On Wednesday, Toyota warned employees it expects to halt some production in the U.S. and Canada as a result of shortages of parts from Japanese suppliers. 'It is clear we will incur some non-production time,' the company said in a memo. 'The amount of non-production is still uncertain.'

AS1100WL: Led Driver for 7 Segment Numeric Displays

The AS1100WL is belonged to the AS1100 series in electronic components products. The AS1100 series are often used in Bar-Graph Displays, Industrial Controllers, Panel Meters, LED Matrix Displays and White Goods.
The AS1100 is an LED driver for 7 segment numeric displays of up to 8 digits. The AS1100 can be programmed via a conventional 4 wire serial interface. It includes a BCD code-B decoder, a multiplex scan circuitry, segment and display drivers and a 64 Bit memory. The memory is used to store the LED settings, so that continuous reprogramming is not necessary.

LM2902KPW: More Than Amplifiers

The LM2902KPW is in a wide variety of applications including transducer amplifiers, dc amplification blocks, and all the conventional operational-amplifier circuits that now can be more easily implemented in single-supply-voltage systems. For example, the LM124 can be operated directly from the standard 5-V supply that is used in digital systems and provides the required interface Electronics, without requiring additional ±15-V supplies. 

Electronic components like these consist of four independent high-gain frequency-compensated operational amplifiers that are designed specifically to operate from a single supply over a wide range of voltages. Operation from split supplies also is possible if the difference between the two supplies is 3 V to 32 V (3 V to 26 V for the LM2902), and VCC is at least 1.5 V more positive than the input common-mode voltage.
