Global Semiconductor Revenues Is Expected to Reach $318 Billion, up 5% in 2012

In the computing market, some facts, this year Intel and AMD release Sandy Bridge and Fusion APU, together with business users continue to use Windows 7, will help to accelerate the PC replacement cycle and promote the next year’s demand of semiconductor. On the other side, because of the impact of tablet PCs, the demand of mobile PC is expected to slow down. On the whole, computing market will take up the 40% of the overall semiconductor revenue. Next year’s growth rate and CAGR from 2010 to 2015 will be 4% and 5%, respectively.
According to the latest forecast from IDC, a market researcher International Data Corp., the next year global semiconductor market revenue will grow 5%, account for $318 billion; while, it will continue to grow with compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6%, and till 2015, the revenue will achieve $378 billion.
Although there are still worries about the development of global economy, including consumption weak caused by high unemployment rate in U.S, the debt crisis of some European countries, high inflation in China and India, etc., we should hold positive attitude towards semiconductor industry. Still, "long-term secular growth driven by end applications such as smart phones, media tablets, mobile PCs, set top boxes,LCD TVs, wired networks, industrial automation, and automotive infotainment remains strong," IDC research manager Mali Venkatesan said.
In the computing market, although the rapid growth of the smartphones market, it has brought continued price pressure for fundamental frequency and related communications chips, especially in the low-end market. IDC believes the continues increase of IP traffic, cloud computing, a new generation of cable networks, created by the extensive application of smartphones, will be the important element to promote the long-term development of semiconductor market. It is expected the growth rate of 2012 and CAGR from 2010 to 2015 will both grow 7%.
In spite that the tablet computer, e-book reader, and LED / LCD TV has strong growth, the decline of traditional consumer products, like DVD players and game consoles, makes the annual growth rate of this market only maintain 5%.
Automotive and industrial applications markets totally account for 16% of the overall semiconductor revenue. Driven by Telematics systems, security and detection systems, engine control, energy management, networking (M2M), smart grid, LED lighting and factory automation applications, it is expected that next year's growth rate and the CAGR of 2010-2015 will increase 5% and 8%, separately.

In 5 Years, Average Annual Growth of Cloud Computing will Reach 26%

Nowadays, both Apple and Android belong to very typical cloud structure. What are the social and commercial values of cloud computing? Why are the world’s most authoritative companies, the best applications and the most high-end software so fascinated with it? What is the magic of cloud computing?
According to Charles Babcock, editor at large of the world famous magazine—InformationWeek, cloud computing is the most powerful and subversive force since the emerging of Internet. It is able to simplify operation, lower operating costs, and offer you flexibility and strength you’ve never dreamed of at the same time.
Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer of Microsoft Corp., describes the cloud element as large scale computer facilities which will be the backbone of the internet, and the so-called client devices, e.g. the PC or (smart) phones, being the way we choose to access these cloud services. Craig Mundie believes that future computing will be to distribute applications between the cloud and the client. Together they will create the next environment in which applications will be developed and deployed.
In an interview, Craig further expresses that at present, the computer is more like a powerful tool, but it needs experts who can make a use of this tool to achieve its highest value. Computer in the future will be able to provide human with better helps, without the users to master high professional skills. The changing keeps on going now, especially in health and education fields. By adopting cloud computing, people will be capable to reduce the costs of medical and health services, and the patients could do self-treatment through computer networks, instead of high-end medical workers.
Craig expected that one of the major innovations after “cloud” would be NUI (natural user interface), which makes the computer more like human, being able to see, to hear and to speak. The computer will be not only a kind of tool, but more like an assistant. Large-scale Internet services integrate with notebook, mobile phones, cares, game consoles, TVs and other computing devices, together with large range of sensor integration, which will bring in new ways of data-driven learning, solving business problems and so on. Microsoft wishes to integrate all these ways to do all these things, and make it available for more and more people and for semiconductor industry.
Based on International Data Corporation (IDC) data, cloud computing services will reach 10% of overall IT consumption in 2013, with annual revenue of $44.2 billion. In the next five years, the growth of cloud computing will be very fast, and average annual growth rate will be up to 26%, which is as 6 times as the growth rate of traditional IT industry.

Futures Prices of DRAM Memory Dropped 16% in July

According to the research of DRAMechange, a market research company, the price for DRAM memory at the first half of July fell 7%, while the price continued to drop and at the second half of the same month, it declined 9% to 10%. So, the DRAM memory price dropped 15.9% in the whole month, which brings shadow for the prospects of this industry at the second half of this year.
DRAMechange said, the average prices for 2GB, 4GB DDR3 RAM at the end of July are $14.50 and $28, dropping 9.4% and 9.7%, respectively; correspondingly, the prices for 1GB and 2GB chip are $0.75 and $1.59.
DRAMechange further expressed that since continuous inventory adjustment, at present, PC customers are very cautious for the purchase of RAM, the market trading volume has been low since June.
So far, PC market performance in 2011 did not meet expectations, and some companies started to down regulate their shipments goal, meanwhile, the growth of the device memory capacity was slower than expectations as well. Although the third quarter is the traditional sales season, the above problems are still not solving now, which will lead to the falling prices ofDRAMmemory in the third quarter of 2011 further, DRAMechange said.
In order to stimulate customers buying enthusiasm, DRAM manufacturers provides some special preferential offers for their customers. Since they are eager to deal with excess inventory, they plan to bundle selling of 2GB and 4 GB memory with a very low price.
On the basis of some news in this industry, although the memory capacity of PC is still growing now, OEM (original equipment manufacturers) are still unwilling to upgrade their memory chip products from the current 2GB to 4GB, the former is pricing $1 now.
Additionally, some memory vendors have regulated 2GB DDR3 price low to $10-11, corresponding with sales promotion in the sales channel. With the price dropping of chip manufacturers and memory vendors, RAM shipments is growing up to 20-30% in July. However, this growth rate does not meet the optimistic expectations they thought before, which also reflects to us that the demand of actual end-market is still weak.
